The Warm Glow of Backyard Evenings
There’s something special about gathering around a gas fire table in your backyard. With just the turn of a knob, you can enjoy the warmth, ambiance, and dancing flames — without the mess of wood or the hassle of cleaning up ashes. Whether it’s roasting marshmallows with family, or simply relaxing after a long day, a gas fire table turns your patio into a year-round retreat.
But like any gas appliance, the beauty and convenience come with a responsibility: ensuring your fire table is installed and maintained correctly. A safe, well-installed gas line is at the heart of that peace of mind.
When a Gas Line Becomes a Hazard
During a recent inspection, we came across a common but dangerous problem. This is a photo of the gas line leading to a fireplace. The section of pipe underground was wrapped in protective tape, but where the gas line met the ground, the exposed metal had begun to rust. Over time, this corrosion will worsen until it leaks combustible gas — a serious safety hazard.

Even though the buried portion was protected, the above-ground section was still exposed to rain, snow, and fluctuating temperatures. Weather and outdoor conditions will eventually cause unprotected pipes to rust through, leading to dangerous leaks and potentially severe consequences. It is important to use the right pipe for the job.
Code Compliance Matters
Sometimes when we inspect a fire pit or fireplace, we find that the gas line was not installed according to building codes, the manufacturer’s requirements, or with proper materials. These oversights can shorten the lifespan of the system, void warranties, and put you at risk.
